McKenna's Birth Story

Kenna’s birth story.

This little lady sure surprised us. We thought since the boys were both born early that she would be early because they always say each baby comes earlier and earlier. On April 2nd I started to have really bad contractions that would not go away for 30 minutes. I thought that was the day. My father-in-law decided to send Karen out on April 3rd in case McKenna decided to make an appearance. Well of course Kenna decided to throw us for a loop and not come on her own at all.

Karen's mom passed away and she had to fly to Utah for the weekend of the 8-10th. She was gone for about a day and a half. We all prayed that Kenna would not make an appearance until after she got back. Well grandma came back and another week flew by and still no baby. We made an induction date set for the 21st. The doctor told me that I was dilated to a 3 ½ on April 12th and he thought she would come by the weekend. Well the week came and went and I was still pregnant. This was the longest I had ever been pregnant- 39 weeks. I was getting so impatient.

On Monday the 18th I had a doctor appointment in the afternoon. I decided that I was going to ask him if I could get induced that day. Of course I didn’t think it would happen, but I wanted to ask him anyways. Well he was an hour late for my appointment because he was delivering a baby at the hospital. When he got to my room he checked me and I was dilated to a 4 and was 100% effaced. He was shocked that I was still pregnant. I asked him about getting induced that day. I kind of said it jokingly. But he said that the hospital was super slow and they barely had any deliveries that day.  So he asked me if I wanted him to call the hospital to see if they would admit me. At this point I was done waiting for this little lady to make her appearance and decided to boot her out of there. She had been head down most of my pregnancy and I was ready to not feel all that pressure.  The doctor then told me that it was a long shot, but he came back and said they said if I went over right then and checked in before any other women went into labor, they would admit me. Well I called Zack because he actually had the afternoon off and I told him to grab our bags and head to the hospital. I got there and they admitted me. I was still in shock that it was all going to happen that day.

This is what Zack was doing.

My nurse's name was Crystal and she was the best nurse I have ever had. She got all my information and then got me started on fluids and then some pitocin. I then got a epidural. That was at about 2:15 p.m. At  4:10 p.m. Dr Erickson came by and broke my water. At this point I was dilated to a 5, almost 6. The funny thing is he stayed around until 4:40 p.m. talking sports with Zack.  I was so tired and getting nauseous and I wanted him to leave so I could fall asleep.  Around 4:57 p.m. the nurse came in and I told her that I started to feel some pain in my back and some contractions on my right side. She decided to check me and she said I was already to a 10. She told me to keep my legs closed so the baby would not slip out. Let’s just say keeping them closed was so hard. The doctor got there real fast because he had just been in the room talking to us about 15 minutes before.
Zack got to help with the delivery and suited up to assist. The doctor did the beginning of the delivery and then turned it over to Zack. By the time Dr. Erickson turned to me McKenna's hair was already sticking out and he asked me if I wanted to touch her head. This caused me to laugh.  A couple of laughs and two pushes later and Kenna was born at 5:08.  Zack got to pull her out of the birth canal and cut the cord and place her on my chest. It was so awesome seeing how excited he was to pull out his first baby girl. I am bummed I couldn’t get any pictures of him delivering her and the video we had didn’t work because a nurse was standing in the way of the delivery. Kenna weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces. She was 19 inches long and her head was 32 centimeters.  She is such a beauty and has blondish hair. We are so blessed to be able to bring another healthy baby into the world.

For the first hour they left Kenna on me to nurse and have skin to skin.
Then after the hour they took her and measured her and weighed her.

Proud daddy!

This hospital also waits six hours to wash your baby.
They say its suppose to help the baby absorb all the nutrients from the liquids on them.
Kenna was not a fan of the bath and cried the whole time, until she washed her hair and then she enjoyed that.

After her bath I got to dress her. Of course she had to have a bow on her hat.

The next morning Zack went to go pick up his mom and the boys.
While he was gone Kenna got her hearing test done.
She passed with flying colors.

Zack came back with the boys and they were so excited to meet their baby sister.
They were so cute and Tallin kept saying he wanted to be soft to her.
Aj was Aj and ran around the room being wild and also gave Kenna loves.

Tallin is such a great big brother and loves his sister so much.

Aj kept himself busy running around with the balloons they got me and just being his crazy self.

He loved holding his sister though.
His face says it all.

I love my family!!!

It was hard to get a picture of everyone looking at the camera.
Aj just wanted to play and not sit still.

Daddy daughter pictures.

Mommy daughter pictures.

Zack is able to sleep anywhere. I wish I could! But he enjoyed snuggling our little lady.

Our little princess.

I wanted to get a picture of all the things the boys brought Kenna and I to the hospital.

We got to go home at 8p.m. at night.
I was a little bummed because I had a super cute going home outfit for Kenna, but figured why change her in it if we are just going to go home and go to bed.

She was not a fan of her car seat. She is still getting used to it too.

We love this baby girl and are so glad that she is in our family.
We can't wait to enjoy every minute of her life and watch her grow into a beautiful young woman.
